Visit picturesque Dunesforde, a boutique vineyard set in the Vale of York with a strong Roman heritage
Tucked away in rural Upper Dunsforth in North Yorkshire and only six miles from the A1M, Dunesforde is a boutique vineyard with 6000 vines established in 2016. Its history however goes back much further when the neighbouring village of Aldborough was the administrative capital of the Romanised Brigantes, the largest and most influential tribe in Britain at that time. As one of the northernmost urban centres of England, sitting in the fertile lowlands of the Vale of York, it is highly likely wine was made in the area. It was certainly enjoyed, as the finding of amphoras can testify. And you will be able to enjoy it again today in our stunning new tasting rooms overlooking the vineyard.
A Dunesforde tour and tasting is a unique opportunity to experience our beautiful North Yorkshire vineyard and its superb facilities. We’ve recreated a Roman winery complete with amphoras and commissioned one of Yorkshire’s leading artists, Lynn Ward to paint her vision of nearby Roman Aldborough during the 4th century for a 27ft by 8ft wall mural.
Hear more about our history, the grapes we grow and why, and the winemaking process carried out by our partners at Halfpenny Green Wine Estate, as well as how the Romans would have made wine all those centuries ago. Finally, the all-important tasting of our wine collection, when you can relax and enjoy the views.
Still wine tour and tastings
A chance to experience all that Dunesforde has to offer and finish with a tasting of our most recent Bacchus and Solaris vintages. These cost £27.50 per person and you will be included in a group of up to 12 people.
CLASSIC wine tour and tastings
A tour and tasting experience which, in addition to our still wines, would include two of our most recent sparkling wines. These cost £37.50 per person and you will be included in a group of up to 12 people.
GRAND tastings
Enjoy a tutored tasting of our full range of wines with Dunesforde’s Head of Wine, together with beautifully paired canapés. Learn all about Dunesforde, wine tasting and wine pairing in the fabulous luxury of our Queen of the North tasting room. The cost is £85 per person and this is for a minimum of 6 people.

private events
Host your group of friends, family or colleagues in one of our two impressive tasting rooms. The Roman Room sits up to 50 and Queen of the North Room sits up to 10. Both rooms have vineyard views and are beautifully finished, they include large TV screens plus a sound system in the Roman Room. We also have a fabulous 25 acre nature reserve with a beautiful lake. It would make a wonderful place for team building with colleagues or even get involved in some volunteering.
