Harvest 2019 begins

Today marked the first day of harvest 2019 here at Dunesforde, just a week later than last year. We gathered in half of our wonderful Solaris grapes, which will go to make one of our traditional-method sparkling wines. Despite it being a wet year and a challenging summer, we’re delighted with the fruit we got in today. These grapes will be pressed and the juice left to settle overnight, once the heavy solids have dropped to the bottom of the tank the juice will be transferred to another tank to begin its first fermentation. This is just the start of these grapes’ journey to becoming sparkling wine - the final product won’t be ready to drink until around Autumn 2021! Good things certainly do come to those who wait.

Thanks to our lovely helpers - we had more than 20 come down to enjoy the sunshine with - it was the perfect start to harvest 2019.

If you’re interested in joining us for one of our picking days, or would like to come volunteer more regularly, please get in touch at contact@dunesforde.com
